NBRC exam day checklist
Everything to check before you walk into a PSI test center for an NBRC exam (TMC, CSE, or the 2027 RTE), taken from the NBRC Candidate Handbook.[1]
The week before
- ☐ Confirm your appointment date, time, and test center. You may reschedule once within your 90-day eligibility window, at least one business day ahead, without penalty.[1]
- ☐ Check that both IDs are current and match the name on your application.[1]
- ☐ Take the NBRC free practice exam to get used to the software.[3]
- ☐ Do your last timed set, then switch to light review.
What to bring
- ☐ Two current IDs with your current name and signature, one with a current photo: a driver's license with photo, state photo ID, passport, or military photo ID. The second must show your name and signature. Temporary IDs and employee or student IDs are not accepted.[1]
- ☐ Layers you won't need to remove: coats, hoodies, open sweaters, cardigans, scarves, vests, and non-religious hats are not allowed in the testing room.[1]
What stays in the locker or car
- ☐ Phone, smartwatch, any electronic device, wallet, bag, notes, pens, food, drinks, and good luck items. A device that rings or vibrates during the exam gets you dismissed with no refund.[1]
- ☐ No personal calculator: a virtual calculator is built into the exam software.[1]
At the test center
- ☐ Arrive early. Anyone more than 15 minutes late is not admitted and loses the fee.[1]
- ☐ Pencils and one sheet of scratch paper at a time are provided; return the scratch paper at the end or you won't get your score report.[1]
- ☐ A practice session before the timed exam does not count against your time.[1]
- ☐ Breaks are allowed whenever you wish, but the clock keeps running.[1]
- ☐ Time limits: TMC 3 hours, CSE 4 hours, RTE 4 hours.[1]
After
- ☐ Your score report is emailed. If it hasn't arrived within 24 hours, contact PSI.[1]
